First, I haven't heard or read about teachers applying the race argument to the IOWAs; I usually see that argument in discussion about the SAT. Regardless, your point is valid - parents and administrators need data to measure the effectiveness of teaching. I'm not sure a national standardized test is the best way to get that data, but it's what we currently have. Are you following the work of the Classic Learning Test? (I don't work for them, I promise). They are trying to use the natural inclination to teach what will be tested and use that to motivate a higher level of content in the classroom.
